"GET A SPRING IN YOUR STEP WITH SCOUTING"

Hi Everyone,

For everyone who is just attending,
the gates will be opening up at 8:30am and the closing ceremony will be at 4:00pm and should be over before 4:30pm. You will probably not be able to park at the grounds. There will be signs directing you to a remote parking lot. There will be busses running every 15 minutes. They will start before the gates open and will run until 6:00pm. The cost to get in is $4.00 per person or $8.00 per family.

For everyone else (that means if you are doing an activity or booth), you need to have all physical equipment set up by Friday night. The gates will be closing Friday night at 9:00pm, so you have to be done by then. You may also start setting up on Thursday at 12:00pm until 9:00pm. Once again the gates will close at 9:00pm and you will have to be done by then and may return on Friday to finish.

You will also need to get a list of all volunteers working your booth or activity to Dan Zedan- 847-436-1812
dzedan@aol.com  or Stan Smolucha-630-235-1858  s.smolucha@sbcglobal.net by Thursday night or Friday morning the latest. This is so your people will not be charged at the gate. The Cantigny staff will be running the area at the gate, not Boy Scout Staff or BSA Professionals. Please get that done soon.

If you are doing an activity or booth and your scout sold 10 tickets you may contact Rick Stewart at the council office 630-548-9250 to get your patches early/before the event. It is $1.00 per patch. Starting today.

If you have questions regarding the Scout-O-Rama tickets please contact Sherrie Nielsen

DISTRICT KICKOFF

Next Thursday, May 8th at 7 PM the Doors will open for the annual
Roundtable Kick-off Meeting. In the past, we usually held our annual
Pig-out at the last Roundtable of the year. However, last year we changed.
The Districted moved the Annual Kick-Off from September, the beginning of
the year, to May, the end of the year, so leaders would get planning
information for the upcoming year.  So, Roundtable incorporated the Kick-Off with the Pig-out.

This year we would like as many leaders to bring their favorite campout
dish to share a sample with everyone. Please make sure you prepare your
dish prior to coming, because there will be NO facilities available on
sight. Also, make sure you bring bowls, plates, forks, knives, knapping,
etc.... Whatever you'll need to serve up your tasty dish. Also bring a copy of your recipe for the Web Committee to add your recipe to the District Cookbook.

SCOUT MERIT BADGE OPPORTUNITY

Scouts can earn the Disabilities Awareness Merit Badge
on June 13 and 14, 2008 In conjunction with the Annual Picnic for the
Disabled (see information below), I will be hosting a Disability Awareness
Merit Badge Clinic on site Friday June 13 and Saturday June 14, 2008. Scouts
should come prepared by completing prerequisites 4 and one from 5, (if you
choose option 5b, the 8 hour volunteer time can be achieved by helping
Friday & Saturday) facilities and personnel will be present both Friday &
Saturday to fulfill ALL of the other requirements. Bring your blue cards.

Once again the International Order of Alhambra and the Three Fires Council
have teamed to put on this premier event. We anticipate once again this year
that attendance will be in excess of 1000+. That is where you and your Boy
Scout troop or Venture crew come in. In order to put on an event of this
magnitude, we need help. Last year we had approximately 80 Boy Scout and
leader volunteers. We had 2 troops camp over night and even more helping for
the day.

We desperately need help setting up Friday June 13th from 10:00am to
5:00pm.  As in years past, we need help setting up 100s of chairs, moving
tons of charcoal, moving pallets of bottled water, etc.  Then on Saturday
June 14th, 8:00am to 5:00pm we need help working games, serving food, making
popcorn, passing out prizes and take down.  I guarantee you will be touched
by this experience.

Troops and crews are welcome to camp overnight for free on site as they have
in past years.

Parents, leaders, Scouts, Patrols, Troops welcome.  Free food for all on
Saturday.

Location:          Montalbano Furniture Company
                        3000 St. Charles Rd.
                        Bellwood, IL  60104

Let me know if you would like to be part of this or another one of these
memorable events in the future

We will Advise time of clinic will begin as we get closer to event.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Volunteers are needed for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday, May 10th.  This is a national event where postal carriers collect food from their routes.  Several Post Offices will be donating food to the Humanitarian Service Project, and we need your help sorting, loading, and transporting it to our facility in Carol Stream.  We're looking for groups of volunteers to help at local Post Offices, a few drivers to help transport food, and a large group to help unload at our center.  Times and locations vary by Post Office.

The food received from this event will support our Senior Citizen Project and Feed the Kids Project.  The Senior Citizen Project currently provides 120 local, impoverished seniors with a monthly grocery delivery of 90lbs of food including fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, bread, and nonperishables.  The Feed Kids Project serves 90 local, low-income families.  Each family receives 200lbs of food during the long summer months of June, July, and August.  We are very grateful for your support!

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.  We're looking forward to working with you!

Yours in love and service,

SCOUTS! WORK ON THE FLY FISHING MERIT BADGE THIS SUMMER

The Illinois Council of Trout Unlimited (ILCTU) is conducting a Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp in the Au Sable River watershed of Michigan, during the period 20-25 Jul 08, for which we are seeking candidates.  Its Oak Brook chapter (OBTU) has been conducting fly fishing merit badge classes now going on four years and last year in concert with Troop 80, Three Fires, put on a high Adventure Fly Fishing Camp (HAFF), which it will repeat again this June. Although the Au Sable camp is coed and open to all youth, ages 13-17, Scouts can attend on an individual basis and will be able to earn their Fly Fishing Merit Badge because we will have several Fly Fishing Merit Badge Councilors present.

CAMP AKELA STAFF  NEEDED

It's that time again ..... We are looking for staff for Camp Akela, our District Twilight Cub Camp. This year we will be back at the Oakbrook Park District Shelter area. Camp will be July 28 through Friday August 1. Camp starts at 5:15 and goes to 8:45, we are usually out by 9:15 every night. Remember that if you are on staff for the week, your scout gets a discounted camp fee.

We still need a few den chiefs to walk with the groups, youth to help out in various places, some adult hands for crafts, nature (science), sports, fishing and of course the ranges. We are planning a double range so we are in need of more people than before. All range staff will need to be trained prior to camp.

Range training will be at Camp Big Timber in Elgin on Saturday Morning April 26th check-in at 8:30 am. Training should last a good part of the morning. Please let Denise or myself know that you are attending.

The final range training date will be on Saturday June 14th again at 8:30 am at CBT.

This years theme is Cub Scout Investigators. We welcome suggestions and ideas for program and decorations. We will announce a staff get together prior to camp to get paperwork and finalize the camp agenda at a later date. If you have any suggestions for activities or crafts for this years theme ... please forward them to Denise or JoAnn as soon as possible.

Please contact JoAnn (joannvanni@hotmail.com) or Denise (groomsd@earthlink.com)
